The 2023 RAM 3500 comes standard with the 6.4-liter Heavy-Duty HEMI® V8 gasoline engine, able to deliver up to 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque and capable of towing up to 18,210 pounds. Diesel drivers can choose between the 6.7-liter I6 Cummins Turbo Diesel engine, offering 370 horsepower, 850 lb-ft of torque, and a towing capacity of 22,660 pounds, or the 6.7-liter I6 Cummins High-Output Turbo Diesel engine, with 420 horsepower, 1,075 lb-ft of torque, and enough force to tow an incredible 37,090 pounds. No matter what powertrain you choose, this pickup truck is ready for anything.

Transmission Options

Three automatic transmissions give different gear-shifting experiences. The 6.4-liter V8 engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission with fully electronic operation and on-the-fly shift mapping. The six-speed automatic transmission paired with the I6 diesel engine features gear ratios designed for diesel driving. With the high-output diesel engine comes another six-speed automatic transmission, featuring higher durability and lower noise.

4×4 or 4×2?

Many trims of the 2023 RAM 3500 are available with either 4×4 or 4×2 powertrains. The 4×2 option, which only sends power to the front axle, are lighter and offer better gas mileage, but 4×4 vehicles offer more stability and power over uneven terrain. If you plan on taking your RAM truck off-road, the 4×4 option is for you.
