Jeep Selec-Terrain Provides Traction in All Areas

July 19th, 2017 by

At Rancho Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM, drivers of Jeep vehicles know that it’s going to be able to perform on the path, and off it. That’s thanks in large part to Selec Terrain™ 4WD which gives you the ability to drive on different surfaces and attain maximum traction from your Jeep. But, what does each mode do? We’re here to explain.

Starting with Auto mode, this is automatic continuous 4WD and operates in the way you would expect any 4WD system to. It provides better traction and grip on and off the beaten path, plus provides better acceleration and fuel efficiency when driving, too.

Next there’s a feature that we’re pretty hopeful we’ll never have to use here in San Diego, and that’s Snow mode. It improves the traction on snowy, cold, and slippery roads, and the transmission may use second gear to reduce speed and wheel slippage. Again, something not applicable to our climate, but if you’re heading north or to the high snowy elevations for an adventure it’s certainly something you’re going to want.

Sand mode is something we’re more used to and it works when you’re driving off road on sandy bottoms where there might be poor traction. This mode provides maximum traction in those situations, and makes any Jeep a capable cruiser on coastline.

When you’re off road in wet conditions like grass or mud, there’s of course Mud mode, which again provides the right balance and traction to ensure your grip is firm. Rounding it all out is Rock mode, which is only available using 4WD low range, and gives you maximum traction and steering capacity when off-roading at low speeds through rocky and uneven terrain.

Our team would be happy to provide you with more details on Selec-Terrain™ onboard our Jeep vehicles here in San Diego, as well as answer any questions, and arrange a test drive.
