Spring is here, warmer weather and summer adventures are looming—and now is a great time to purchase a used Jeep®. At Kearny Mesa Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM, we have a vast selection of new and used Jeep vehicles for you to choose from. But what should you be looking out for when inspecting a pre-owned Jeep?

Examine the Exterior

The first thing to do when checking out a used SUV is to inspect the exterior of the vehicle. Does it look like it’ll be capable of the kind of driving you have in mind? Is it the right color? Do you like the design?

Under the Hood

Your next step is to pop open the hood. Examine the engine and make sure everything’s been well maintained. Our experienced Jeep dealers will be able to give you a thorough explanation of every model’s performance features.

Interior Inspection

Once you get inside the car, make sure the mileage is what you like. High mileage is usually an even better indicator of wear than age. Make the upholstery meets your standards, then double-check all the electrical functions—test the air conditioning, the heat, the lights, any power windows or seats, and the sound system.

Test Drive

A test drive is always an important step when considering a used car from your California Jeep dealership. Once you’re on the road, test out the brakes to see how responsive they are. Pay attention to the handling and performance, and try as many different kinds of road as possible—suburban streets, freeways, and backroads.

Service History

Once you’ve thoroughly examined and tested the car, ask your dealer about a history report, as well as any service and maintenance records. A car history report will tell you if the vehicle has been in any accidents and how well it’s been maintained over the years.
